Make Something Monday, 121012: Candy Cane Reindeer

Welcome Back to 'Make Something Monday'!! =)

Today's crafty project is a wicked fun one for the littlens in your world... or just for the kid inside you and your friends!! ;oP  [Truth be told, I don't have any babies of my own, and I have been making these each Christmas for many years... and all the big kidz in my life love them, too!! =)]

Introducing Candy Cane Reindeer!! =oD

(I'm sure you've seen these before, but, as far as I'm concerned, Christmas would not be the same without them! ;) )

SO let the fun begin...

First, the mood must be set... ENTER: Pandora! =) ...A little holiday cheer for your ears!

Next, gather your project materials:

  • a box of candy canes... what flavor is a personal prefernce... or mix it up, for a bunch of fun colors!
  • pipe cleaners, in brown or black
  • pom-poms, size 10mm ...I used red, but brown or black would also look good
  • wiggley eyes (also called googley eyes), size 6mm
  • glue
  • glue dots
  • scissors

Next we are going to work on the antlers.
Okay, take out one of your candy canes.  Also grab a pipe cleaner, scissors, and keep your glue handy, as well. =)

Fold the pipe cleaner in half, in preparation to cut it.

Once you've cut your pipe cleaner in half, set one of the pieces aside, and pick up your candy cane again.  This is the step you'll need your glue, as well.

Fold the pipe cleaner around at the top of the "head" of the candy cane, making sure that you have an even amount on either side, twisting a couple times to set it in place...

Then secure it's location with a bit off glue...

The next step is to form the shape of the antlers.
With your fingers, bend the pipe cleaner on either side, first up once at about its middle point, then out to the side at the remaining piece's middle, and then once more up at the middle of what's left...

And now your reindeer has antlers! YaAaY! =) ...

Let's give him a face, shall we? ;)

Pull out your pom-poms and googley eyes, as well as the glue dots.

Put a glue dot at the tip of the "head" of the candy cane, for the pom-pom nose.  Put two glue dots side-by-side closer to the antlers, to affix the eyes.

Cute, isn't he?!? =)

And you can make a bunch, so he has friends...

And they can all join in the reindeer games...

HOW much fun is that?!? ...And SO easy, too.. =)

One of the things that I just LOVE about these little guys is all the things you can do with them.  They are great in a jar, hanging around on your tree, or garland, or around presents... They are also a fun little present or stocking stuffer all by themselves, as well! =)

So, did you think that was fun?? =)  Let me know if you made any of  these fun little guys for your holidays, and post a comment below about your crafty adventures! =)
Thanks!

Merry Christmas!! =)

May your imagination light your way,
